THE PICNIC PACKAGE
Spacious grassy areas await beneath the walls of the Citadella, just a few steps away from the viewpoints.
The sunniest and most spacious area can be found near the western wall, making it an easy place to stop with a blanket while exploring the Citadella.
We have marked our three favourite spots on the map where you can sit down, relax and enjoy the moment.
THE BEST SUNSET SPOTS
The sunny lawn
A wide, sunny stretch of grass between the promenade and the fortress wall on the western side of the Citadella. It is easy to stop here with a blanket during your walk, and there is plenty of space even if you arrive as a group. Spread out your picnic, stretch out on the grass and watch the afternoon slowly turn golden.
The nook below the stairs
A smaller, secluded grassy spot below the stairs, right next to the fortress buildings. A perfect place for a quick picnic if you stop for a short break while exploring the Citadella.
At the foot of the fortress wall
A quiet picnic spot at the foot of the fortress wall, close to the trees and beside the promenade. From here, you can see both the massive walls and the green hillside, while the crowds feel far away. Spread out your blanket, lean back and enjoy watching the sun slowly disappear behind the trees.
The romantic hideaway
Spread out your blanket along the fortress wall, beneath the trees and away from the crowds. This quiet grassy spot is perfect for a picnic for two. Raise a glass together and watch as the setting sun paints the city golden.
The golden hour terrace
As the sun sinks lower, everything on the terrace of Citadella Café glows in golden light. Try one of our signature cocktails, raise a glass to the sunset and enjoy the view. Here, golden hour is not only about the light, but also about the perfect drink.
The classic panorama
From the northern bastion, one of Budapest’s best-known views opens up: Buda Castle on the left, Pest on the right, and the Danube leading the eye all the way to Margaret Island. This classic postcard panorama is at its most beautiful at sunset, so it is worth arriving a little earlier – this is the most popular spot at that time.
