Following the renovation of the Citadella, a new chapter begins in the life of one of Budapest’s most iconic tourist destinations. The gastronomic concept is curated by Levente Lendvai, chef of the Michelin-recommended VIRTU restaurant, located at one of the highest points of the city.

On the terrace of the Citadella Café, a modern bar atmosphere meets Hungarian gastronomic identity, where a selection of local wines, pálinkas and craft gins awaits visitors. The highlight of the “deli” offering is a range of sandwiches made from the exclusive recipes of the renowned SALT Bakery, perfect companions for a walk on Gellért Hill and the breathtaking panorama.

As part of the reconstruction, within the walls of the former western cannon tower, the Bastion of Freedom has opened—an impressive, 1,700-square-metre historical experience space that brings defining moments of the past to life through interactive storytelling.

    With its immersive visual world and modern technology, the exhibition presents the Hungarian struggles for freedom, as well as the stories of heroes and sacrifices, revealing the hidden layers within these historic walls. More than a traditional exhibition, it offers an emotional and engaging journey that helps visitors understand the true depth of our nation’s desire for freedom and identity.
