Busó Collection

One of the most spectacular and well-known events in Hungarian folk traditions is the Busójárás of Mohács, which has been an inseparable part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2009. This spring-welcoming, winter-chasing carnival looks back on centuries of history: according to tradition, locals wearing carved wooden masks and inside-out sheepskin coats made a tremendous noise with huge cowbells to scare away the harsh winter—and, according to local legends, even conquering armies of the past.

Although traditional Busó masks are distinctly frightening, we reimagined this vibrant, life-affirming folk custom in a much kinder, more lovable form. The central figure of our collection is a smiling, friendly Busó, who wears all the authentic accessories of the tradition: the characteristic ram horns, the warm sheepskin coat, and the cowbell symbolizing fire.
