Hussar Collection

As a once-majestic fortress, the Citadella preserves the memory of Hungarian military virtues and heroism, passing it on to future generations. The hussars constituted Hungary's legendary elite light cavalry, renowned for their unmatched bravery, distinctive ornate uniforms, and swift, brilliant tactics. Their military significance is clearly demonstrated by the fact that in the 18th and 19th centuries, European great powers modeled their own light cavalry units after them. The international prestige of the hussars is further evidenced by the survival of this Hungarian-origin term in most of the world's languages to this day—including the English word hussar.
