Lángos Lángos

Lángos Collection

A hike in the fresh air and along the steep promenades of the Citadella gives travelers a hearty appetite! One of the most iconic staples of Hungarian gastronomy is the lángos, the perfect street food, which was originally popular at traditional markets and beaches, but has now conquered the city center as well. The history of the dish dates back centuries: its name derives from the word "láng" (flame), as it was traditionally made from leftover dough on bread-baking days. The original lángos was not deep-fried in oil, but baked at the mouth of the oven, directly near the embers and flames. Although the classic version is brushed with garlic, the absolute favorite is the rich cheese and sour cream topping, which offers the warmth of local flavors and true Hungarian hospitality.
